All students in Ohio (outside of Cleveland) are eligible for the EdChoice Scholarship regardless of income. Amounts are prorated, but if your family is below 450% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, you will receive $6,166, which covers all elementary tuition and most of middle school! See the chart below or click it for more details on award amounts for families over the 450% threshhold. Unfortunately, families living in the boundary of Cleveland Metropolitan School District are not eligible for the EdChoice Scholarship.

EdChoice Expansion Scholarship

The EdChoice Expansion Scholarship Program provides scholarships for all students beginning in Kindergarten. The scholarship is based on one thing, your income. If you are below 450% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL), you qualify for the full amount: $6,166. That means that you get all of your tuition paid for elementary students and nearly all your tuition paid for middle school students. There is a sliding scale if you are above 450% (see above), but everyone who applies receives at least $616.50 per students that goes toward tuition! The EdChoice Expansion application window will open February 1. All students, new and currently enrolled, can apply for the EdChoice Expansion Scholarship, but must complete enrollment before submitting the application. Click here for the Expansion EdChoice Fact Sheet for more information.

Here is how it works:

FIRST TIME APPLICANTS (Only those who DID NOT receive the scholarship in 2023-24)

STEP 1 - Return the following documents to BCA (drop off or email jburnett@bcakids.org).

STEP 2 - Upload following documents to the Ohio Department of Education's "Scholarship Income Verification System:

RENEWAL APPLICANTS (Only those who DID receive the scholarship in 2023-24)

STEP 1 - Return the following documents to BCA (drop off or email jburnett@bcakids.org).

STEP 2 - You DO NOT need to submit Income Verification to renew UNLESS you would like to be considered for "Low-Income Status." Low-Income status means that you will not be charged the difference between BCA's tuition and the value of the scholarship, which is currently $6,166. Low-Income status means your adjusted gross income is below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. Scholarship families with a total gross income at 201% or higher, per the Federal Poverty guidelines, are responsible for paying any tuition difference not covered by the scholarship.
